the cd with the driver is lost and i don’t remember its type to download it from the internet.

install a trial version of everest from http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en&page=11
after installing you can locate and know what brand/ model is your modem card and the url will also be there to download new drivers.

I have a all-in-one printer with a fax system. I bought a external 56K Modem USB so I can send and receive faxes, because my computer does not have one installed on it. When I installed it, and when I try sending a fax, my computer shuts down and starts back up. It does that every time I try to send a fax. I was wanting to know what could be wrong?

Reinstall software. Check if connections are tight and correct.

I want to have a fax machine here at home. However, the problem is that I really don’t know much about fax machines, and how they are set up. I have a house phone. Will that work? Just by hooking it up to the phone line? Will I have to talk to my company and set up a fax number? Any suggestions on what I should do???

You regular phone line will work just fine. You don’t need a separate # unless you expect to use it a lot (the line will be shared by both the phone and the fax, so if the fax is busy, they can’t call you).

It has to be faxed, they will not let me email it for whatever reason. What I am trying to do is find a website where you upload the file and its faxed over the internet. There are services that let you do this, but you have to sign up for a monthly program

It’s so easy to subscribe with web based fax services, just have a computer and internet connection, search for a reliable online fax service provider then subscribe with them.

Depends on how much you have to spend on it. Over the past several years, there has been a movement toward integrated document management systems, where one unit scans, faxes, copies, e-mails, and prints. With such a system on a network, anyone can send faxes right from their computer or they can run paper documents through the scanner portion of the unit and send them out as faxes. Incoming faxes can be e-mailed directly to the person responsible for handling them, avoiding the need for the faxes to be printed out and handled in paper format.
On the other hand, if you want a stand-alone fax machine, one can get one, but its worth spending the extra money to make sure it uses a laser printing mechanism instead of having to keep replacing expensive ink cartridges.

It sounds like for some reason the recipient needs to receive a document by fax. You can accomplish this without even having or using a fax machine yourself.
I’m assuming that you have this document on your computer so all that you need to do is signup for a free or really cheap internet fax service like:
http://faxfromyourpc.blogspot.com/
and you can send the document to their fax without the hassle of using a fax machine yourself, and it’ll be much better quality.

They charge the same as a call. If the fax is going local than local charges if goes long distance than long distance call charge.

It’s fairly easy actually.
1st – You’ll want to find a fax service provider like http://www.pangea-comm.com/ , it’s what http://www.wiredfax.com/ uses.
2nd – Find a freelance designer off of http://www.craigslist.org/. Depending on your needs, it isn’t likely that you’ll need a design firm to design your website and can keep it affordable.
3rd – Reference (not copy) a website like http://www.wiredfax.com/ (which is a very good example of a small fax service) or http://www.efax.com/ (which is a very good example of a large fax service). You’ll want to make sure that your pages are secure and encrypted meaning that you’ll have an SSL Certificate installed on your server and your pages will be pre-fixed with https://.
