Question: Do I need to install more Memory (RAM)?

on a side note I run Iolo system mechanic pro up to date.

Problem: I am having the following issues(which have not previously had);
freezing
BSOD
random/sudden restarts

attempted solutions:
deleting unnecessary programs
defrag registry
removing unnecessary startup programs

possible unattempted solutions:
system restore to an earlier date
installing more RAM (upgrading to greater RAM, currently unsure of motherboard limitations, will have to double check)

I decided to look online for any other possible solutions.

Sounds like your system needs a cleanup more than more memory.

Your symptoms could be Spyware, Malware, Programs hogging Memory resources, Corrupted Registry files, too many cached Temporary Internet files, or a really fragmented hard drive with very little swap memory.

To cure most of these:
Restart (reboot) your computer normally if there are no serious issues.
Otherwise Restart (reboot) while holding F8 down and run in the SAFE mode the following:

(a) Find and Remove Spyware and Malware using Microsoft Security Essentials:

1. Go to Microsoft.com and download Microsoft Security Essentials:

2. Run to clean computer and protect it. (This may require disabling or removing other protection programs.)

(b) Remove unwanted or unused programs (especially toolbars):

1. Click Start | Control Panel| Add or Remove Programs

2. Select each program that you do not want and click ‘REMOVE’.

(c) Clean the Registry:

1. Go to PCTools.com by clicking the link and running ‘try a free scan”:

2. This will download Registry Mechanic and repair some of your registry, but not all.
This program is extremely good and worth having to make sure the registry is clean.
There are other registry cleaners out there too if you prefer, but this is a start.

(d) Deleting Temporary Files:

1. Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Clean Up.

2. Select a drive and click OK.

(e) Defragment your Hard Disk:

1. Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter.

2. Select the drives that you wish to defragment.

3. Click “Defragment Disks” button to proceed.

This is Recommended, but make sure that you do not have anything in the trash can that you want to save !!

(f) Reboot and Rerun all programs (a,b,c,d,e) again until they complete error free or have reached optimized levels.
