I am jealous of the people that have only had their F&P double drawing dishwasher repaired 5 or 6 times. A & E factory service have been to my house about 15 times since the end of October 2009. I am not exagerating. And today, still no dishwasher. Out of the last 100 days, the unit has worked about 20. And both drawers have worked about 15 days. I purchased the unit in May 2005 for the home I was building. It was installed in July 2005. The 1st service call was in August 2005, and its been about every 3 to 6 months every since. This past Thursday, the A&E tech was there again. Its leaking from somewhere AGAIN and needs another main board. Of course, we won’t know where its leaking from until we order and install a new main board so we can run it and look for the leak. Luckily, I did buy an extended warranty so I’m not out of pocket yet. But that goes out this May. The A&E tech called F&P from my house and they have agreed to replace the unit. They told him they would call me last Friday to arrange deliver. At 6 PM Friday evening, I finally called them. They told the replacement had just been approved. Yea right. I am supposed to receive a call tomorrow or Wednesday about delivery of my new dishwasher. I don’t think I’ll hold my breath. If F&P does as they have promised, I will be sure to report that as well. Remember, run the opposite direction.

I purchased the previous model of this machine. I loved the concept, one clean one dirty drawer. You can run just one when there is not too many dishes.Uses much less water than conventional dishwashers, has a delay start…. That about ends the pluses of it. The inside plastic racks were cheap and thin, and in mine broke quickly. There are no height adjustments on the side racks. I saw a new one in the store and it looks like they repaired the bad things, beefed up the racks, made them adjustable. The walls are still plastic, which I think should be stainless… so the machine may be better than the previous models, but really look it over. You can buy a Kitchenaid or Bosche for the same price.

I have owned this unit for 2.5 years and between the poor wash quality, poor customer service, and constant repairs I ready to throw this 1000.00 dollar plus appliance out the door!!!!! I have had this unit repaired four time in the last 2.5 years; mother board x’2, a faulty soap dispenser, and today a motor in the upper unit all of course out of warranty. I wish that I would have listened to the reviewers when I bought this unit- the cool design & concept got me! Please heed my advice and stay away from this unit IT’S JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!

This ‘Dishdrawer’ worked fine for us for two months. Then simultaneously both drawers quit working properly. We immediately called the only authorized service location anywhere close to our home in the country and they ordered parts. That was three weeks ago. The service location just received notice that the parts order has now been received. In the meantime we are enjoying washing dishes by hand together while this beautiful but useless stainless steel machine sits next to us at the sink.
We sold a perfectly good but noisy dishwasher on Craigslist when we had this one installed. We think this must be what is meant when by “conjuring the devil.”

This is a great looking, no, incredibly gorgeous appliance. If you are setting up the house for display, no other dishwasher comes close.
Unfortunately, it has a minor shortcoming. Namely, it does not wash dishes well. Large items such as pots simply do not fit into the drawers. The duplicate sets of water jets are also not as powerful as their counterparts in similarly priced competitors of the traditional single-door design.
Additionally, according to Consumer Report, Fisher & Paykel dishwashers suffer from extreme quality issues, with a 25% rate of major repairs, which is more than twice of the nearest competitor. The unit that I have personal knowledge of got both motors burnt out shortly after the one-year warranty expired. Although they cost only $50 each, the labor can be expensive. Waiting for them to be shipped from Australia is also no fun.
As of April 2009, there are only three vendors selling double-drawer dishwashers in the US. Other than this Fisher & Paykel DD24, KitchenAid re-badge the same thing as KitchenAid Stainless Steel Double Drawer Dishwasher. Sears sells a double-drawer Kenmore Elite unit that also looks suspiciously similar. They all garner miserable quality ratings from users of a year or more. So, unless you are a real-estate agent setting up the house for sale or a lucky housewife who never cooks, buy the Kenmore Pro or Bosch Evolution 800 Series Stainless Steel Undercounter Dishwasher instead.
