I bought the 3/4 horsepower, but the installation is the same. I have installed 4 during the past 20 years as a homeowner. However, I gave up on this one. The rubber cussion mount would not fit into the mounting ring. I even resorted to my car jack to put it in place. I bougt it to avoid using plumber putty. Terrible decision. It went back to the store after 4 hours (i am very stubborn). I put an In Sink Arator in in about 20 minutes.

Spend a little more for a powerful disposer. This machine eats anything that’ll fit into the opening. Ours has worked perfectly for 4 years. I would give it 5 stars, but you must push waste into it. The rubber guard (gasket?) on the In-Sink-erator works better than GE’s. GE’s rubber opening grabs food particles which then makes some of the water back up into the sink. The handle of a scrub brush takes care of that easily. For the price, the 1Hp Disposall is a winner.
