You need to use a fax modem to fax out, or use an online faxing service
Answer by Carling
I thought Tufu knew things about computers? well seems not
the answer to your question is simple, you need a fax voice modem. the software is in windows XP. already. if you do get a f/v modem you can do your fax message in word and send it as a fax. if you want to copy a document you will need a scanner to copy it with then save the document then send it as a fax document

Your computer needs a dialup (fax) modem. Right-click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager. You should have a “Modems” category. If you click the “+” next to it, it should show you what type you have (it may or may not say FAX).
Click Start -> Printers and Faxes -> Set up faxing. Go through the wizard to set it up.

If you have a modem that can connect to your phone line you are set.
Windows XP includes the software to send and receive Faxes.

Change your processor into the most latest one to make it more faster. Also the video card you can change it and make it more bigger to make browsing faster in loading images. If necessary you can change your battery too so that you can carry it where ever you wanted. Please visit http://driverofsoundcard.com/news/

The only parts you can upgrade on that laptop are the RAM and the 2.5″ hard drive (probably a PATA / IDE type). Nothing else.
If you live within Metro, take it to the IT Center complex at corner Gilmore St. and Aurora Blvd. There are lots of surplus 333 MHz DRAM (SDRAM) there. Max it out to 2GB. As for the hard drive, if you want to get a bigger capacity drive, ask them to clone your existing drive so you will retain everything that is currently installed. Don’t dispose your old hard drive. You can buy an external USB hard drive enclosure for less than 300 and use it as backup:

The laptop doesn’t seem to have MS Office. If you are not going to buy one, you can get the free OpenOffice:

By the way, get rid of the Norton AV 2006. It is most likely expired and useless. Replace it with the free Microsoft Security Essentials:

Edit: Don’t believe what Nilyn said. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

We have configured fax and it seems to dial out now (we get the tones and message in the fax monitor), but it never connects with the other end…
message reads, “No answer”.
Altho, I finally had to fax the stuff from an office store, and it connected and went thru first time.
We have a recent connection with Qwest hi-speed on actiontec dsl modem.
Anyone know what is the problem here?
Thanks for any help.

Answer by Sandy G
Really dumb question here. Do you have a separate (from DSL) modem and phone connection? Fax needs the DSL filter just like your telephone.
Answer by GladToHelp
My only recommendation is to get rid of the out-dated fax machine and look into online faxing, you could save yourself quite a bit of money and headache, read up:

if there is a printer control panel icon in your taskbar you can right click on it to terminate your printer’s queue otherwise you will need to run services.msc which lets you set the control the opening of all the services that starts with windows booting everything is listed and has pulldowns to set manual/automatic or disable startup. it took the place of sysedit when windows went xp.

probably not going to get an exact one. try using a generic 56k modem driver built into vista.

Your best bet is to use Driver Agent with this modem attached to an online computer and you may also be able to solve the problem with a Google search
