My Question: I bought a Dell Photo All in One 966 Printer. I want to utilize the fax feature.?
I want to use the DSL modem as my “device”. My understanding is that I have to buy a DSL Filter. How do I install if I don’t have a phone line?
You must have a phone line to use to use the fax feature. As far as the DSL filters go, you get them when you order your DSL service, if you don’t have a phone line then you can’t have DSL service.

Question: how do I install my dell all in one printer?
I’ve had dell all in one printer A922 since day one, then I had my computer reloaded and the guy took everything off so I installed it back and everything worked except I could not use the fax part, so I uninstalled it again and I have tried several times to install it back to see if it would work and it won’t install , keeps saying there’s an error and I went right by the steps as before, any suggestions, ?
Get your drivers and downloads from this source:

Uninstall any software related to the printer (Start Menu, Control Panel, Uninstall Programs ~ in XP, or Programs and Features in Windows 7). I am guessing you have the install CD that came with the printer? Either way, I would go to the Dell support website and download the latest drivers for your printer (instead of the older files on that CD).

Install it and run it. This program cleans up your system, gets rid of old junk files that may have been left behind.
Disconnect the printer from the computer.
If you couldn’t find newer drivers in the Dell site, reinstall the drivers and software using your original Dell CD. Connect the computer when asked (during the setup process) or once all the drivers and software are done installing. Reboot your system at least once before trying to use your all in one.

My Question: can’t change my color resolution on my dell monitor to install my lexmark x3400 printer?
I bought this lexmark x3400 printer, I have a dell desktop monitor, it won’t allow me to change the resolution from 680 to 800 in order to scan my pictures or fax documents from the printer
could be that your video card drivers are corrupt or not installed.

You need a dial up modem attached to your computer which is connected to your telephone line.
A wireless connection or broadband connection are no good in this instance.

I just got the ink cartridge in the mail, since I am out of black ink for my printer. NOW I can’t figure out how to install it! (It was my sister’s printer and she moved out of State). It’s about a seven year old printer/scanner/fax, and I can’t locate a manual online for it. No idea what happened with the ORIGINAL manual … PLEASE HELP!!!

I think you’re a little confused, mate. The Dell A940 All-in-One Printer doesn’t use toner. Toner is used in laser printers.
The following link is the direct link to open a .pdf document … the Owner’s Manual … for your printer. (Do be aware that it will open up directly. If you don’t trust that I’m sending you the correct link, click on the second url below, then scroll down to where it says PDF Documents. Here you can right click on the relevant language that you wish the document to be in and save it directly to your hard drive.)
You’re going to need to install the driver(s) for your printer, too, so I’ve included the link for the driver … the third url below.
Hopefully, this will get you up and running.

I can print from my Acer computer to the printer, I can copy from the printer, I can’t fax or scan from my printer.

YES it is compatible, simply make sure you have installed ALL the drivers (for the scanner too, as this is a 2nd driver set)
for Faxing download the guide from

Click the button for “faxing” once you open the ZIP file and then the help file
It will tell you what you need to set up in windows to fax.
Your PC will need a fax/modem installed and access to a normal analogue telephone line.

I purchased a used all-in-one Dell printer from a friend and he lost his manual on how to use the fax part of it. Could someone PUHLEEEZ be nice and explain to me how I go about sending out faxes on this thing? My friend has’nt used it in over 3 yrs. and can’t seem to remember how to use it. Thanx!

The best way to see about getting this to work will be looking at the Owner’s Manual. Here is the link to the Manuals for the A940 http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/a940/en/index.htm#online_documentation at the bottom of the page there will be a PDF for “Faxing instructions” that will explain this.
Please be aware as per the “Faxing instructions” you will need to use faxing software and a computer modem. This printer does not have a built in modem so it will require the computer to have one.

Today I tried re-installing Dell A940 AIO center with disk but when it comes to installing the Scanner Section an error comes up that says:
“C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application.”
Wether I click close or ignore the next box error says
“File could not be opened. Check that the file exists and that it is in the correct location.
C:\DOCUME~1\JOHN\LOCALS~1\Temp\LMS\cdains32.dll”
I’ve tried restarting the computer, re-plugging in USB, I even scanned the registry just to see if that would fix it.
Is there a way to fix this problem? Everything else works, the printing, copying, and faxing. All but the scanning. And the main reason why I tried re-installing this printer, is so that I can scan my vacation pictures onto my computer.
ALRIGHT! SO I got rid of the SYMANTEC issue.
Now I’m pretty sure after fixing this problem, I will be able to install the software.
I try to install and a box comes up saying
“C:\Windows\System32\Autoexect.nt
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application.”
Any suggestions?

Sounds like your anti-virus (security suite) is not playing nice with this particular install.
Try disabling your anti-virus (security suite) before you try to install it and see what happens.
Make sure you uninstall it completely before you start again. After uninstall it do a fresh restart, then disable your anti-virus (security suite) then try a reinstall.

Go to the control panel, then to add-remove programs, uninstall all of your norton products. Then reboot, (turn the computer off then on) The try reinstalling… it tells me your norton is corrupt.
The you will have to install an antivirus. I suggest AVG Free edition. It is so much better than Norton.

To fix the problem, edit the registry and restart the computer. Then update the Symevent files and restart the computer again.
Follow the directions for your version of Windows:
To edit the Windows XP registry
On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
In the Run dialog box, type regedit
Click OK.
Go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers
In the right pane, delete the VDD value.
In the left pane, right-click the VirtualDeviceDrivers key, and then click New > Multi-String Value.
Type VDD for the name of the new value.
Exit the Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.
