Question: do you have to always install a printer using a disc in order to use it?
i got a printer,(it’s one of those office ones (the big kind)), and i was wondering if you HAVE to have an instalation disc in order to use it…..i do not have one with it..since it’s old..(got it at a garage sale…) so how exactly would you use it/print/copy/scan/fax from it if you do not have the disc?

yea, my computer is an hp, and so is the printer..and it does have a usb cable. so..umm..yea
find out the make and model and download the drivers off the manuf. website. make sure you can answer what os version your using.
The printers that are the same brand as your computer will not need a installation disk. If this does not work, or the printer is a different brand, you will need the installation disk. However, since you do not have the disk, simply find it at the manufacturer’s website; they are required to have all the drivers and installation programs for all their products.
No, you don’t have to have the CD but you DO have to have Windows device drivers for your printer.
Just go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers for your model.
Note: If it has a USB connector, you HAVE to install the driver software first and then plug in the USB cable when it tells you to.

There is a process known as “Hackintosh”, but that is outside the scope of a single answer and we cannot help you in this endeavor. Such a process is against Apple’s EULA. Since it’s against the EULA it is against the Community Guidelines.

My Question: How do I install about 8 telephones using a single ‘line’ in my house?
Mom is mobility impaired. Her house has DSL & single line analog phone (voice) service . Has 2 cordless phones & 2 hardwired extensions sharing that 1 line. Sometimes she has a cordless phone within reach. Many times she has to get up & (sometimes painfully) move to place where cordless phone was left or to nearest wired phone.
Am aware that using several handsets/POTS introduces problems (involving issues such as impedance, S-N ratios, etc).
I know about unpowered splitters (have seen 5x splitters)
but think I need an amplified splitter/replicator/ LineDuplicator.
Wish I knew the correct telephone term for this kind of device.
What are my options?
My dream sys involves 6 wired phones (one for voice/fax) & 2 cordless phones. Have plenty Cat5 cable; prefer to use wired phones.
Another minor detail that may/not complicate the situation is pending installation of RJ31 jack for home health monitoring system. This probably doesn’t affect my 8 extension plan.

ahhh you want to have 8 lines? ok well your plan is impossible. The only way you can have that many lines to have a PRI (voice T-1), due to the fact that you probably dont have enough facilities at the MPOE(minimum point of entry).
Let me know ….I was checking that too but the Telephone company said can’t unless we let them do that have 8 to 10 ..But we pay them .00 /hour.
the average line the REN must equal 5, so 5 phones is normally the max that should be placed on a single line, however turning off some of the ringers could help…
depending on the signal comming into your home you may not need anything more then some good inside wire runs, I recommend when you run your wire to run it the same you would data cable, one run per jack to a central point, dont go jack to jack…
you can probably find a REN amplifier for your telephone line at radio shack..

Question: Reinstall xp games and fax?
I uninstalled xp games and fax using add remove windows comp. I tried to reinstall them and it keeps asking for the sp3 disk. When you brouse for the file you can see it in the box but the program doesn’t see it. I have sp3 installed. I was told to download sp3 for networks. then using the command prompt unzip it and put it in a folder. Then when it ask for the disk to go to that folder and click on the file. I did that and it still does the same thing. The file is there but the icon does not have an associtation. You can choose the file but the installer does not see it. I am using the xp programs installer. Can anyone help me.

Question: Why can’t I install the print server on my notebook computer?
As part of the install process, you click on “Start.” Then you click on “Printers and Faxes.” But “Printers and Faxes” does not appear on the screen. Therefore, I cannot continue the process of installation. I have Windows XP home edition. I have a Lexmark “all in one” printer. Both my laptop and printer worked fine together before I installed the wireless router. I can still use the printer but have to connect it back to my laptop to use it. This defeats the purpose of the new wireless router with built in print server. Can anybody help me? I am not very computer savy but can follow directions if they are not too complicated. Thank you for any help you can give me.
You can go to the control panel to get to your “Printers and Faxes” area..
Try to repair it.

This will check windows files and repair corrupted ones

My Question: I have an Hp all in one series Printer that will not install. I have the disc but it won’t install it either.
When I try to print something it goes into some kind of fax mode. It says no printer is hooked up at all. The connections are fine. Any suggestions?
Go the HP website and download the software for your printer there.
First, make sure you followed the installation procedure before inserting the Driver/CD installation software.
Are you sure you did’nt turn on the printer before installing the software/driver ? And did’nt connect the USB connection to the PC yet ? These are the basic and fundamental procedure that will help make your printer work properly, if the printer is hooked up to the computer. If the printer’s operation is independent from the computer, then you have to scrutinize fully the manual operations of the printer through the User’s Guide Manual or get advice from the dealership or the manufacturer.
If the above was not being complied, you have to re-install the Printer’s driver/software, but first uninstall the previous installation.

there may be a conflict between the new software you installed and the base windows excessory. Either delete the software or find out if the software has a (set as default) button. You may have to read the troubleshooting section in the book that came with the software.
go to My Computer and click on tools on the tool bar.
then click on folder options. in the windoe that opens click on the tab that says file types. when the list appers scroll down to the extenchion of the file type that you are trying to open with the picture and fax viewer. click on it then ckick on the button at the bottom that says changein the section that gives the detials for that file type. the slect picture and fax viewer and click ok. to open that picture in the picture editor then in stead of dubble clicking in it right click on the picture and put your mouse over “open with” the slect the program that you want to open the picture or file with. if the program you want to use is not in the list then run or start up the program and open the picture within that program. hope that helps

My Question: I bought a Dell Photo All in One 966 Printer. I want to utilize the fax feature.?
I want to use the DSL modem as my “device”. My understanding is that I have to buy a DSL Filter. How do I install if I don’t have a phone line?
You must have a phone line to use to use the fax feature. As far as the DSL filters go, you get them when you order your DSL service, if you don’t have a phone line then you can’t have DSL service.
