Are faxes sent by email (eFax, MyFax ) as secure as telephone faxes for sending charge card info etc?

By lhrf1: Are faxes sent by email (eFax, MyFax ) as secure as telephone faxes for sending charge card info etc?
my main concern is receiving charge card numbers from customers.

Absolutely NOT!

E-mail is an unencrypted messaging service that relies on unknown public relay servers on the internet to get to it’s destination. Anyone who has access to these servers can access your e-mail (and any faxes it contains) and obtain the details from it. It is not secure at all and you would be negligent if you used e-mail in any way to transmit customers card numbers or any other private details.

Not really an answer you could use, but the word on IE7 is stay away from it until the bugs are worked out…apparently they are numerous.

◙ Here are hundreds of Discussion Groups for Microsoft products such as Internet Explorer, Outlook, Outlook Express and the list goes on and on. There is even a discussion group for the new Internet Explorer 7 beta.

◙ You’ll need to signup for an MSN Passport Account to use these groups. But it’s really worth your time. You’ll receive better help here than anywhere. But if you didn’t pay for the product it might be smart not to mention it here. If you want help that is.

This is a little program that makes programs think IE 7 is IE 6. It works great for sites and programs that do not support IE 7 yet. I use with IE 7 and get three sites that don’t recognize IE 7 to work just fine.

See if this helps you. Select “Internet Explorer 6″ link.

eFax vs regular fax? – Fax Computer

fax computer

Question by siatajamie: eFax vs regular fax?
Hello can some one tell me if it is really worth getting efax because what if some one wants to send me a copy of a document that’s not in the computer they would still have scan it into the computer to fax it right? so i should just get the 3/4 in 1 fax machine but the problem is i have a voip phone system and can not find a compatible fax machine

Answer:

Answer by William V
EFax can take any document (word, excel, JPG picture) and fax it. Neither end needs a scanner.
We used it before we got a real Fax machine. Worked fine. Sends the docs to you in email.

Answer by dragonkraut
An efax is beneficial especially if you’re in a public area because the fax comes directly to your inbox. The person sending the item can just send it normally from their fax machine and the efax system converts it into a file in your email. There are also cost savings on it in that it saves you/them somewhere around 10 cents per page. Another benefit is you can access the item anywhere because you’re not tied down waiting for the item to come to the physical machine.

I guess it depends on how often your going to be sending documents by fax. The e-fax service is 16.95 per month plus additional costs if you send more than 15 pages a month or receive more than 130. E-faxing seems to be geared more towards business use so if that’s what your using it for than that would be the way to go. Also, the convenience is a good thing. It might be your only choice right now if you have VOIP.

Answer by Cv R
I have had efax for 4 years now, and would not use anything else. One of the best benefits is that you can choose multiple emails for your faxes to be sent to. I created a free yahoo account 4 years ago and added it to the efax account, now I have an archive of ALL faxes I have received during the last 4 years. Do you have a fax that you received 4 years ago in pristine condition?

Please leave your answer in the comments! Thanks.

How do I efax a documment to a telephone (fax) number?

By Rancher41: How do I efax a documment to a telephone (fax) number?

Good Answer:

Answer by Robert W
Assuming that you want to fax a document from your computer.

Your computer has to have a fax modem and it has to be connected to the phone line

You should have a fax set up wizard on your computer to get you started.

It’s really easier to have an all in one printer with a fax modem, then you print the document and fax it on the all in one.

Answer by Frank
Are you referring to using efax? If so, open an email client with the registered email address.
To: ph.no@efaxsend.com (ie: fax number = 4125551212, then address is 4125551212@efaxsend.com)
Attach compliant documents to the email, and send. The body of the message is the cover sheet.

If you are asking about an old fashion method, and your have a POTS line, then you will need to make sure that your PC will support faxing, and go from there. If you don’t have a POTS line, than you will not be able to send a fax unless you are using a fax – email service.

Answer by Curt Mcpark
This can be done with VOIP. But other methods will do too.

Answer by Mary
Before you can send a fax via the internet you need to consider some of the following factor:

1. Did you register for an online faxing service?
2. Do you have an internet connection?
3. Do you have an active webmail account?

Faxing Options! Need Suggestions – Replacing eFax?

Ask by needanswers: Faxing Options! Need Suggestions – Replacing eFax?
I would like to replace my current eFax service – paying 16.95/mo and only receiving 1-2 faxes per month and sending 1-2 every 3 months!

Catch – I need to keep my current fax number. Any suggestions for the lowest cost replacement? I have a laptop, so it’s not always connected to use in receiving faxes – something online that can receive and let me download would be ideal.

What is a good option AND will allow me to use custom/current fax number? ideas??

Best answer:

Answer by Yaga Z
Definitely try RingCentral or MyFax, I am sure that you can keep your current number and your monthly plan price will be reduced to half (8 to 10 dollars a month at most). You can try them free as well for 30 days, check out http://faxfromyourcomputer.com/

Answer by Sam
MyFax offers you two options:

The MyFax best value plan is 10/monthly, for either a local or toll free number. that will give you 100 sent and 200 received pages. I’m familiar with eFax and I know they charge extra for toll free numbers, MyFax does not.

They have also launched a new service, MyFax Free www.myfax.com/free which will allow you to send up to 2 faxes, up to 10 pages each (with cover) to local, or international destinations.

There maybe a possibility for you to port your number, you should check with MyFax.

I hope this helps.
