Question by babie_boomah: How come “chain” tax preparers charge so much for filing electronically?
I mean, it’s just a FAX. Dial and hit send. My accountant doesn’t charge any extra for doing this, but people I know that have their taxes done by “chain” preparers say they are charged anywhere from $ 25 – $ 100 for this service. What’s the big deal? And even id there is a charge, shouldn’t it be standardized? Why such variation?

Our world is a corporate one that is very greedy by nature. If they can charge extra and people will pay, they will charge extra. That’s how our capitalistic society works.

Because people are willing to pay that much. If they didn’t, then they wouldn’t charge that much.

Id like to send documents (MS WORD) from my computer to someones fax machine without having to print a hard copy and have to fax it over in the traditional manner. Is there a recommended software program (for the PC)? Or, is an online eFax service with monthly fee the best approach?

Just google sending a fax free via the internet and in the site list you will come across lists that tell you what to do and how to do it. I once sent a fax to the government using this method and it worked.

If you have a dialup phone modem on your computer, the modem may be Fax-capable. If it is, the computer manufacturer most certainly gave you a program that can do faxing. Check the machine’s documentation.
