Fax Service: I just installed a new printer and the fax keeps showing ‘phone off hook’ error?
The printer is an HP all in one J6480 and we also have multiple lines. right now the fax is hooked to the same line as one of our overflow phone lines using an old US West splitter. I have tried all the recommended tasks to get the fax to work, and I have also checked the phone cord by bypassing the splitter and it works. Is there anyone who has had this problem or one like it? I think I need to get a newer connector for the splitter? Any ideas would be great!
Either that, or there are too many items on the phone line. Each splitter takes away a little current. If you have too many, there’s not enough current to pass a signal, thus “off hook”.
Hi there, I have been recommending that printer.
It has fax to pc feature so you wouldn’t have to print out all the fax you receive. Downside is you can only save it in black and white.
A “Phone Off Hook” message is not an error. It’s possible that splitter is broken. Run fax test off of printer. Press setup> tools> run fax test to determine the problem.

I have a strange problem that started recently on my computer win Windows XP recently upgrade to SP 3.5, although the error occurred before the update too. I get the error from both Mozilla Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 6 and then 8 also that my print spooler is not working and asks me to add a printer. The print to PDF or regular old HP PSC 1315c don’t show up when trying to print from a browser.
The strange part is that I can print from Notepad and from Adobe. I can’t print a PDF opened through a browser only when opened directly with Adobe. The printers all show up in the /Control Panel/Printers and Faxes folder. I also can’t print a test page from the printer properties.
I have gone into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services and stopped and restarted the print spooler several times while also shutting off the printer and it is running when I start up the computer. I also checked on the spooler properties to make sure they were good. I have also gone to /Windows/system32/spool/printer/ and deleted all files. I also have Comodo Firewall and AVG Anti-Virus Free running and the latter haven’t found anything.
So basically I’m stumped because the print spooler isn’t recognized from any internet browser. Can anyone help me please?
Which printer driver? They both are not working. I can’t print to PDF or print to the HP inkjet and my understanding is that they each have a different driver. They were working as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

Hi,
If you see some system messages like “Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem…” or “Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running” it’s the bifg probability that your spooler is broken. Print spooler may be broken due to 3 most popular reasons:

Go to the lexmark site and download the manual.

error code 1200 is a paper jam error. Either you have a jam or the cartridge is not centered or seated correctly… Open it up, check for paper jammed up, and make sure the cartridge is seated right.

I have installed Lexmark printer drivers on my computer and the printer works great.
However, the found new hardware prompt keeps popping up. I reinstalled it and it went away for awhile, but now it is coming back.
Other than the Fax feature, I have used everything else and it works real well.
Is there way to keep this prompt from popping up.

When you see the message “Found new hardware” do you also see the message “Your device is installed and working properly” after? Or something else? I believe you are missing a device driver.

If your computer keeps detecting new hardware even though that hardware has already been installed it is probably a problem with a corrupt registry.
I solved a similar problem by using the registry cleaner included in tune-up utilities. The trial version will let you run all the tools to see if it will solver your problem.

You have to figure out what hardware isn’t installed. Open your device manager (right click on My Computer -> Manage, click on device manager). Locate the device in the list: it will have a question mark to it and will be under unknown devices and see if the name gives you a clue as to what it might be. If the name sounds like it is related to the printer, see if you can download the driver for that device from manufacturer website, unpack the driver, then right click on the device in device manager, select update driver and follow the driver install wizard to specify the driver location (unpacked driver files). If the name doesn’t sound familiar or is not informative chances are it is unrelated to the printer, follow these steps to get more info on the device:
Double click on it and open the Details tab in the window that pops up. You may see a string that contains something like …VEN_####&DEV_####&….. (where #’s stand for numbers). If you locate this string, note the 4 digit numbers after VEN_ and DEV_. Go to www.pcidatabase.com and search for your VEN_ (vendor) or DEV_ (device) numbers for more information on the device. Once you find what device it is, download and install drivers for it.

I’ve seen this with an HP multi-function printer as well, the TWAIN (scanner/fax) driver which installed itself as a type of printer port required a fix from the printer manufacturer. After downloading, and applying the fix, the repetitive hardware finding finally ceased.

its some kind of intitialization error with the print cartridges. hp has a troubleshooting online but it just says to take out cartridges and reinstall them. i have a few years experience in copier and fax repair but i dont have a service manual to get an idea where to look.

I have an HP Officehet 5610xi All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier. It prints fine when I print a page off of a website or something but I am trying to print invoices from a software that we use for my business and it keeps giving me a Print Error… 3021: No Current Record. Then it’ll only print half of the invoice and then not even print all of them.
I contacted the software company and they said it is something wrong with the printer.
Any ideas?
And I don’t really want to contact HP because you end up getting some dummy who can barely speak a word of English.
I have also tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, turning it off, anything that I could think of and it hasn’t helped.

Your software company is copping out. The error message is generated by their software, not your operating system or your printer.
Do a Yahoo or Google search on your error message for further insight.

it seems to be an error that a software program will display if a request is made to print but no invoice record was found. what’s funny is the software program does not find the record and prints either the last record read or part of the next record.
verify the invoice that printed if it is indeed the invoice you have selected to print.

Even other CS3 software. It seems that even you paid for it, it will soon expired and even you call the tech support especially in the US they won’t help you!!! Instead they will Irritate you until your head explode! Boom!
They will tell you to fax them to prove the you did purchased the product But their fax won’t let you in.
I’ve searched the net using google but mostly found nothing! They said that switch back the time it will work for sometime but it will soon expired and it will affects the other program as well.

I just upgraded my Windows XP Media Center Edition to Windows Vista Home Premium.
My Printer Spooler doesn’t seem to be working where it always closes and doesn’t load correctly! In my Printers and Faxes in Control Panel, it is empty. No printers are shown!
I try to install a more updated driver for the printer but it doesn’t let me and tells me that I cannot add a printer because the local print spooler sybsystem and app are now closed.
How can I fix it? It is very urgent….

hey,
ok. you ready? what you need to do is go to the start menu, when you click on the start button above it it says start search, type in there services.msc, hit the enter button on the keyboard and click continue. maximize the screen and look for print spooler and start it if its stopped and/or restart it and restart the computer. if you are still not able to load the driver, which by the way you should not have the printer plugged into your computer at this point, you may want to double click on the print spooler and check the dependencies if it says anything else but Remote Procedure Call, RPC, such as HTTP, which happens alot with dell’s and vista, then you’ll need to call dell or microsoft to get that off of your computer’s print spooler. hope that helps.
