Do all new computers have a place to plug in an Ethernet (DSL) wire for Internet?

Ask by jetengine767: Do all new computers have a place to plug in an Ethernet (DSL) wire for Internet?
Do you need a 56K Fax modem or wireless card in your computer to have a place to plug in the Ethernet cable or is that unrelated?

Good Answer:

Answer by Sammy
Wireless card is for awireless connection. 56k modems i dont believe have the place to plug in a eternet cable. Most new mother boards will have a ehternaet card built in. Check what your new computer has and find out.

Answer by sound_engg21
Ethernet is just one of the different ways your computer can connect to the internet. A fax modem and wireless card have nothing to do with the existence of your Ethernet port.

Using a fax modem and wireless card are 2 alternate methods to get connected to the internet. If you have a wireless card, you can connect to a wireless network and get connected to the world wide web. If you have a fax modem, you can setup a dial-up connection to connect to the internet.

Answer by Easton D
That is unrelated. The 56K fax modem requires a telephone line. The wireless card connects to wireless networks. To use an Ethernet cable, you need an Ethernet network interface card (NIC). Nowadays, however, most motherboards have Ethernet connectors, so you don’t need a separate card.

Answer by Nikolas S
If your computer is relatively new, chances are that you may have at least one Ethernet connection; just look in the back of your PC. As for the the wireless card, you will need it only if you are planning to go wireless, where in this case you will need a mode and and a router, where both of them will have an Ethernet connection.
Hope this helps.

Answer by dadimwit
I would say that almost every desktop computer now being sold will come with Ethernet. You may or may not find a modem, they’re becoming obsolete and are usually an option. Wireless cards are seldom found in desktop computers.
Most laptops now come with an ethernet connection and a wireless connection. Many also have a built in modem.

Ask by Joe: how do you get a driver for a ethernet card when the computer is offline?

Good Answer:

Answer by Tru
Get it on a CD or on a memory key and install it that way.

Answer by ioerr
You can download it using another computer and put it on a thumb drive or something.

Or maybe your computer has an onboard ethernet adapter you could use.

Or maybe Windows will have plug and play drivers already that will work with it well enough for you to get online and get the drivers you want.

Anyway you’re obviously online now on some machine or other. Get out your thumb drive.

Answer by Forest Crowley
Use the computer you’re on now, to download the drivers. Put them on a thumb drive, or write them to a CD. Then take it to the other computer, and install the drivers.

Answer by Smilingsky Liao
just get it from a right website on a internet accessible computer. and i have posted a link in your last question, i remember. here again:

hope it can help you.
good luck.

Answer by sonnyvillabert
Your hardware should come with the Driver software with it. Check your boxes there. If you already threw it away. Ask your friend if they have the same hardware and borrow his CD driver. If not, download it from another computer with internet and put it on thumb drive or burn in CD and install to you computer.
