My Question: When I log onto Windows, Windows installer tries to begin installing a Fax. How do I stop that?
If you mean the Native Windows Fax, then just change the Windows settings; Go to control panel, then Add/Remove and then to Add/remove Windows Components; Open that up, Uncheck the Fax Option, and ok that. Unless you have a Modem Setup with a new Telephone line ( which may over-ride this) it should stop the install if you actively stop the option.
But this all depends on the actual Fax option being “installed” by the system
Click on Start, Settings, control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and when the list loads, click on Add/Remove Windows components on the left side of the screen. It takes a few minutes for that to load, but when it does, remove the check mark from Fax service. Click on OK, then close all the windows and restart the computer. The fax prompt should stop now.
It sounds like its the fax software starting up, do you have one of those scanner, printer, fax machine combinations? I know that mine used to always try to boot that up, even after I set it not to. If its a fax program, I wouild just go to the control program, under add/remove programs, and uninstall it? Or, if you’re not using dial- up, make sure the phone cord is not plugged in. I’m not sure if thats the problem, but i hope that helps somehow..

There should be a setting in your fax software to fax a group, check you owners manual for the proper settings.

Make sure it is set to auto receive, and make sure you have the line in the proper slot.

go to an internet shop and ask for a fax service.

number appeared on my computer asking if I wanted to take the # as a fax with the telephone # displayed. That no longer comes on and when I click on fax, my recieved & sent fax messages are gone. How can I restore my fax?

Your best best is to completely uninstall the printer software and the drivers from your computer. Disconnect the fax from your computer and restart your computer. With the fax/printer disconnected from your computer reinstall the drivers and software This should return your to the functionality you had before.

I Googled it but all I get are pages with info trying to conect to internet. All I want to do is fax from Microsoft Fax. Some of the strings will almost work.
The screen lights up on the phone and the number I am dialing appears, but it just disconnects. The Cingular rep and site were no help. Surely someone has this! Please help!!

If it is a cable or a DSL modem it will not work. They are only for high speed internet.

When you installed Motorola Phone Tools, it should have configured your dial strings to use the phone as a modem. If it not working, chances are your service does not allow you to mate data calls over the cellular network.

Ok, my age on star doll is apparently under thirteen and so my mom had to print and fax them the permission form, she faxed it at around 4:30 today ( 3/29/2010 ) and its 6:50 now, does anyone know how long it takes to process? Please do not go to Libby’s link above. it is full of malware. AVOID IT.
If you have Windows XP. It should have built in software to send faxes using your existing modem.
While sending a fax, you DO NOT want to be connected to the internet using the same modem!

As s’body said: if you have XP, 98 or 2k it has a fax. First you need to set it up (Help FAX) Then when you write a letter you click on “print” and choose FAX. If you have a scanned document on your comp then you’ll need to paste it into a document.
