fax machine ruins dsl filter? – Fax Machine

fax machine

Question by dabo: fax machine ruins dsl filter?
everytime i use my fax machine on the dsl line, the dsl filter “breaks” and internet connection speed is cut by half. is there such thing as a filter that is high quality or maybe stronger? or any other way to fix this besides unplugging the filter everytime we fax? thanks

Look around for double filtering – contact your dsl provider to see what they recommend and don’t let them tell you your fax machine is the cause of this problem, it is not your fax machine, it is the dsl and having the proper filtering.

If they can’t help, go to an office machine store and see if they can give you some advice, but don’t buy anything until you are sure. Check out their return policies.

Get rid of your fax machine and go with internet fax. Way more efficient and usually cheaper in the long run. Here is a link to read up a little on internet faxing:

Q&A: Can a filter detect the pages i view in private browsing? – Fax Internet

fax internet

By Tay: Can a filter detect the pages i view in private browsing?
My dad says we have a filter now to offset the fact that our internet and fax share the same line, so faxes don’t inturrupt internet use and vice versa. it also has a memory chip in it that he says tracks the pages we visit. Can a filter detect the pages i view in private browsing? it’s between my internet and the ‘wall plug in’ cat5 outlet or whatever its called.

Answer by Edward<3Bella
What are you trying to hide???hmmm?

Answer by skalragg
your dad is bluffing, the filter prevents the internet / fax being disconnected when both are in use at the same time

however if you are using a vista/windows 7 machine and he is the administrator and your not, he can view everything from files you open, to programs you use, to websites you visit

If you also have admin privileges you can disable it in ‘parental controls’ section

so to answer your main question, private browsing will not prevent him seeing what you view

Answer by TaKe.Me.DoWn?_Try.iT!
Proably not. But it is true that the information can be logged outside the computer. Private browsing does not make the information unreadable. It just not log it to the computer.

if i have cable internet, do i need to attach a dsl filter for my fax machine?

fax internet

Ask by Carl: if i have cable internet, do i need to attach a dsl filter for my fax machine?

Best answer:

Answer by Richard M
No. Your phone line has nothing to do with the Internet connection.

Answer by Denver Al
Cable internet is different from DSL. If you have cable internet bundled with a digital telephone service also through the cable, you do not need any special filter or adapters in order to use the fax or telephone, unlike DSL setups.

You should be good to use it like a normal telephone line. But, if you still have a DSL phone setup, and no phone service through the cable, then you’d need to use the DSL filter adapter.

Best of luck.

Where can I get a digital filter for faxing over a digital phone service line? ?

Ask by mrp_dkc: Where can I get a digital filter for faxing over a digital phone service line? ?
I’m trying to use my fax but I have a digital home phone service – not analog.
I was told by my fax machine company that a digital filter could work to convert the digital signal to analog whenever I need to fax.
I contacted my phone company, my internet company. I tried Best Buy, Staples, Radio Shack, Circuit City – no one even knows what it is.
I have TMobile at home service for my home phone and it uses my Time Warner internet service which is cable not DSL. I just want to be able to use my fax machine again through my new TMobile home system

That’s because no such device exists. Let me try to help you out. When you say “digital home phone service” what do you mean? Can you tell me exactly who you pay a phone bill to each month? Is it Comcast? Verizon?

There is no such thing as “digital home phone service.” The telephone system in place is an analog system. However, there have been new technologies recently that have allowed providers to offer traditional home phone service to people through different media (television cable lines, for example). But when the signal exits the back of your cable modem or phone adapter, it is a standard analog connection, just like it was 10 years ago. Essentially, if there is any “digitalization” of the phone call, it is done in the middle of the transmission, and not on either end of the phone call (or fax transmission). Let’s just say you have Comcast Digital Voice or Vonage as your home phone provider. The steps for hooking up your fax machine are as follows.

1. I am assuming that you have your phone adapter (the thingy that converts the phone signal from digital back to analog) hooked up correctly and can make calls using a standard phone. Also, i’m assuming that you are sure that the fax machine is configured correctly. This could be a key problem. The way to check it would be to hook it up to another phone line that you know works properly.

2. Take a normal phone cord and plug it into the back of the fax machine in the port that either says “line” or shows a picture of a wallplate.

3. Plug the other end of the cord into the back of your phone adapter in the appropriate port. If you have just one phone line (number) then this will be a port labeled “Line 1″. If you have more than one phone line, the proper port may be marked “Line 2″.

4. Try to make a fax transmission.

It should work no problem. If it doesn’t, then you have a glitch somewhere. Hit me back with more info so that I can assist you better.

You don’t have DSL service. You don’t need any filter.
Just buy a phone splitter and use it to share your phone jack with your phone and the fax and Bob’s your uncle..
Hope this helps.

don’t know what your “fax company” was talking about… if there was a such thing don’t you think that they would be able to provide, or sell you one?

check this link from the tmob website that states that faxing is not supported on @ home http://support.t-mobile.com/knowbase/root/public/tm23772.htm

and here is the @ home FAQ page http://www.t-mobile.com/templates/generic.aspx?Passet=Sup_Overview_LP&WT.mc_n=athomeFAQ&WT.mc_t=OnsiteLink

and the @ home main page http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/addons/services/information.aspx?tp=Svc_Tab_TMobileAtHome

most VoIP services do not support faxing or dial up services…..

Why does the fax machine not work when plugged into DSL filter? – Fax Machine

Ask by gamegirl: Why does the fax machine not work when plugged into DSL filter?
I am trying to help a friend with her fax machine. She has DSL and there is a DSL filter plugged into the phone jack with one of the cables hooked up to the DSL modem and the other going to her Dell Photo 964 printer/fax/scanner. The problem is that she cannot receve faxes or send them. Any opinions or input regarding this issue is greatly appreciated.

You don’t need to use a DSL Filter on a fax machine.

Answer by vancup2003
Fax machine requires input from regular phone line, no filtered one. Take off filter, or chance jack or change location of fax. have a good day

Answer by dallygirl89
I have a friend with the same problem-the fax doesn’t recognize the dsl. Try the Dell support people. www.dell.com.
Here’s one answer from their forums:”If you are on DSL, you connect the DSL modem direct to the telephone line, but you will need to connect an “analog voice” line, through a filter to the modem (just like you connect your voice telephones through a filter to the telco wall jack).

Connect the analog (voice) telephone line to the “line” jack on the modem. The other jack will have a small telephone icon and that is to connect a voice telephone.”

Answer by John H
The Fax DOES need to be hooked to your phone line with a DSL filter!

Is the fax/all-in-one getting a dialtone? Should be easy to tell with a regular telephone. If not, you wired it wrong.

FAQ: How does a junk fax filter work?

Ask by Rachelle P: How does a junk fax filter work?
I’m broadcasting a few faxes from my fax machine for customer who are requesting for my price list, however, most of the time it does not go through sometimes it does though. Is it because of a Junk fax filter? and I;m using a broadcast setting?

Answer:

Answer by pingme
More likely its because the person your faxing to doesn’t have a dedicated fax line and is sharing it for other uses.

Does the fax start sending at all?

It could also be you have a bad phone line and its getting a lot of static or something. Try making some phone calls on it and see how they sound.

What do you think? Answer below please!
