Do I have to have two line to add a fax machine to my home business?
Posted by in Fax Software on January 28, 2012

Question: Do I have to have two line to add a fax machine to my home business?
Own home business going to purchase a fax machine. Do I have to have 2 lines.
I have a home business, and I have two lines. one for the phone one for the fax
No.
My fax machine listens is a combination fax machine/answering machine. If I’m not home, it listens for the difference between voice and tone and responds accordingly.
If I am home and it turns out to be a fax, I hit *9 and the machine switches over.
No. I use a single line which has a phone, and a phone out on it. I can pick up the call if I wanted to or I could let it get to fax after 4 bells.
Personally, I have been contemplating the switch to eFax. Its cheap and accessible from anywhere in the world.
Good luck with the business!
It can be done with one, but is pretty awkward. Figure on two lines.
I had used a fax machine for some years and it’s so uncomfortable. Then I have tried PopFax.com internet fax service and it’s so reliable. It lets me to save money on fax machine, potential repairs, and it is environmentally friendly, because it doesn’t require consume of paper and toner. Also I can receive and send faxes (http://en.popfax.com/Send%20fax%20subs.html) while traveling, as long as I can get an internet connection.

Q&A: had a seperate phone line installed for my fax machine but when machine turned on phone won’t work?

My Question: had a seperate phone line installed for my fax machine but when machine turned on phone won’t work?
I take it you have dsl guessing of course if you do then your phone needs a dsl filter on it. Or is that second phone line a SECOND PHONE LINE? is it hooked to the fax line somewhere and they said ok it is fixed and ripped you? you can check that out put a phone on both lines then try to call the other line see if it rings or busy
if it does then hmm replace the dsl filter that is cheap! if thatis used then it could be a loose phone service? from the pole to the house that might run you upto to get checked but when the phone wire runs in your house you check it!ifit looks ok then unplug everything else but phones and fax and have someone fax and phone you on the other line see if it works if it does start plugging things in one by one until it stops working then you will find the bugger. if it is down to the phones and the fax try a phone to phone first then phone to fax it might be the Fax
What do you think? Answer below please!

I cancell my land line at home, got wireless service now, the tech directlly hooked up the printer/fax? – Fax Driver

Q&A: I cancell my land line at home, got wireless service now, the tech directlly hooked up the printer/fax?
straight to his hardware that he installed, my question is how can I fax I did fine a wire connecting to the router, Thank You, No the printer is not wireless, but it is hooked to the router.
Your wording is a bit difficult to understand, but I will tell you this. If you have INTERNET fax ability, then your fax should still work with wireless; however, if you have a LANDLINE fax (That is, an analog fax used on the Plain Old Telephone System) your fax will not work without it. In order to function, an analog fax must have a dialtone and an analogue phone line. To put it another way, if you used to have your fax hooked up to a telephone wire, and now you don’t, it ain’t gonna work.

Do you have to plug to a phone line using “PC Fax” on a multi-purpose machine? – Fax Driver
Posted by in Fax Driver on January 3, 2012
My Question: Do you have to plug to a phone line using “PC Fax” on a multi-purpose machine?
I have a brother multipurpose machine, fax, scan, copy, printer. I have in installed on my laptop for “PC Fax”, do i still need to have an active phone line to send/receive fax’s?
I think you need a service to send or receive a FAX on your computer. for a separate machine to S/R a FAX you definitely need a land-line.
The Brother PC Fax feature is a way to use the fax modem in the Brother machine to send a digital fax from your PC. It’s done using software that comes with the machine. But yes, you do need a phone line to use the service (same as if you were sending a paper fax).
I used this feature before I got my FaxLogic account, which lets me fax without a phone line. Since then, I’m paying /month for regular faxing plus computer faxing (fax-to-email, email-to-fax, web fax) vs. about /month for my analog business line.
My particular Brother (MFC-9840) also supports a different feature called “iFax”, that kind of works in the opposite way (it lets my Brother send and receive paper faxes without a phone line, but it also requires a service, and FaxLogic was the only provider I could find that supports the Brother iFax feature). But, even if your machine doesn’t support the iFax feature, you can still use it with FaxLogic using one of their Internet Fax Adapters (a little box that connects your machine to your Internet service); I’m using one of those for an HP all-in-one that I have.

Which company has the cheapest fax line? – Fax Free
Posted by in Fax Free on December 27, 2011

My Question: Which company has the cheapest fax line?
Something around $ 5
There isn’t really such a thing as a “fax line”. Fax machines use a standard phone line, just like a regular telephone.
Online fax is considered to be the most cost-effective way of sending fax. You just have to pay a cheap monthly rate and you could get excellent faxing services from reliable service providers.
My brother said that you can get faxes working over a VOIP line but it’s really slow and frustrating.
Even then I don’t know if you can get VOIP for a month?!
I am all over here telling people to go with email fax. I personally just gave up an all-in-one beast and the monthly phone bill for email fax @ http://www.metrofax.com/.
At this point I’m saving money over the cost of a phone line (I’m paying /month for forwarding), plus I’m saving the cost of printing (paper/ink). I still pay almost /month though so a month is a really impressive goal!
If you don’t need much smartfax looks like it’s as cheap as /month, at least according to the review site I found/use.
You can get a fax number (local or toll free) along with an internet fax service that requires ZERO installations and ZERO maintenance fees for just .95 month at Nextiva. RingCentral also offers great prices as well.
Probably the best is RingCentral and they bottom out at or per month…
Here’s a site where they compare the top companies…. http://www.fax-number.net

How can I get a land line phone number just for fax only and cheaper or free?

Q&A: How can I get a land line phone number just for fax only and cheaper or free?
No need for land lines for personal and business calls, I use cell phone for incoming and outgoing calls.
not going to get a land line for free… cheaper is going to be the metered or message rate service, where you pay per minute for all calls… should be around per month plus any usage, taxes and fees…
i would consider looking into an efax provider if i was you – your incoming faxes will be sent to your email as a PDF file (usually) and you can scan then email your outgoing faxes – and they will be sent to the fax machine of who ever you are faxing..
FaxLogic has exactly what you’re looking for. Their “Classic 100″ service is a /month plan that connects your fax machine (or all-in-one) to your Internet connection by way of a small device they call an Internet Fax Adapter. The adapter gives you a low-cost fax line that works anywhere you have Internet access. They can move your existing fax number or assign you a new one anywhere in the US (or even a toll-free fax number).
I use their more advanced service with my Brother MFC all-in-one (my particular model–an MFC-9840CDW–is actually supported “natively”, so it works with FaxLogic without an adapter). The plan I have (“Private 500 Pro”) adds support for fax-to-email, email-to-fax, and web-fax through their web portal. It also archives everything I send or receive, even paper faxes I send through my Brother MFC, into online folders that look and work pretty much like Outlook. I signed up earlier this year and I’ve had no problems, so I have no problem recommending this service.

No. it’s an analog telephone line. It doesn’t have an IP address. Your printer itself, if connected via a network port to your network, will have an IP address, but the fax portion will not.
