How do you find out your fax machine’s number?
Posted by in Fax Software on January 23, 2012

My Question: How do you find out your fax machine’s number?
Is there something I can do to find out my fax machine number? Technically it’s not mine, I am at a friend’s house, and he is not around to tell me what it is. I need my tax forms faxed to me for financial aid for college. Anyone know how to find this out? Thanks!
Dial 0 and ask the operator.
There should be a decal on it somewhere with the phone number written on it. If not, try calling your cell phone with the fax machine. The number should pop up on the caller ID. If that doesn’t work, ask your friend, or go to a FedEx office and fax it there. You could also call your school’s financial aid office, and ask for their fax number, then have the form faxed directly to them.
99% it is on the same line as your friend’s home phone number.
If not, just move it to a regular phone outlet, then IT WILL BE your friend’s home phone number.
(Then, after you receive your fax, move it back)

your fax and copy does not need Internet, really
if you have dsl, just use the wireless
if it is dial up, you maybe looking for a splitter
there are taps that let you plug in 5 phone cords to one line [we do] and they work fine

a router? lol
Answer by Joshua M
An Ethernet Switch allows you to connect multiple TCP/IP devices together.
A Router connects different networks together (ie, your home network and the Internet). All home routers include an Ethernet Switch as part of the unit.

Can’t be done it wasn’t intended for that purpose. You’re going to need to upgrade your fax machine.
My suggestion is to invest in a multi-function printer (Printer, copier, scanner, fax).

Ask by Patrick: Recommended All In One machines.
I have an HP Office Jet All In One office type machine and the software is horrible. It constantly causes conflicts with my Dell computer and HP knows it’s the software and can’t do anything about it. I’ve even had correspondence with the board of directors. Is there a good All In One machine with a flat bed scanner, that also prints, copies and faxes? I bought a new computer and there is no way I’m going to install HPs horrible software into the new computer. Any suggestions are appreciated and a link is even better. Thank you very much in advance.

First, for fax you should visit efax or faxwave. You can get a free account which will let you receive faxes in your email. No need for a fax machine or dedicated phone line.
Next, as someone who was in the computer hardware business for years (though I rarely sold printers since I couldn’t compete with the crazy rebates) I have always recommended Epson. The print quality is excellent, even on plain paper. I have photos I printed on a 640 about ten years ago hanging in my office which still look good, though not as good as the ones from the CX8400 on glossy paper. The warranty is excellent. For a year, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one. I had one customer who needed this. He called one afternoon and had the replacement two days later. Another client bought a Canon. It needed two repairs within a few months. Each time it was taken to the repair center, then picked up a few days later. This client runs a specialty printing business and this really hurt. They have since bought an Epson CX5000 and have had no down time since.
All name brand ink is expensive, but you can get cheap new replacement cartridges for Epson (not refills which I never recommend) for under at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp I have been using these for years.
The CX8400 scanner/copier/printer was on sale at circuitcity.com for with free shipping. It uses 3 colors plus black.
The RX595 scanner/copier/printer also prints on DVDs. It uses 5 colors plus black and has even higher photo quality. It’s on sale for after instant rebate.

If you absolutely need a fax machine, look at the Epson CX9400fax which is like the CX8400 with fax. It sells for under 0.

is information stored in fax machines and copiers?
Posted by in Fax How-To on January 1, 2011

Ask by A: is information stored in fax machines and copiers?
We are about to sell a Brother Intellifax 2820 fax machine and a Sharp AR-207 business copier. What i’m wondering, is if any of our documents or information is somehow stored in those two machines? Also, i know the fax machine has numbers set for speed dial to other offices, does anyone know how to clear this? Thank you!
Featured answer:
Answer by Christine
No. The information is not stored. View the fax machine like a telephone. It simply transfers the data from one place to another. Nothing is stored in the machine. Same with the copier. The copier takes a flash picture and transmits it to the paper. Once the job is completed, the copier deletes that temporary image. SO you can sell the items with an ease of mind!
Here is a link to the User Manual for the fax machine: http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_IntelliFax_2820_2920_MFC_7220_7225N_EN_1344.PDF
This should have information regarding deleting the speed dial numbers.

When will the FAX Machines die?
Posted by in Fax Service on December 28, 2010

Ask by Bill G: When will the FAX Machines die?
I do service work for big computer companies and the bozos want the paper work faxed to them. Haven’t these idiots figured out there is new technology called email. Now days more and more people are giving up their expensive land lines for cellular phones and have no fax availble. You would think any modern computer/internet company would have heard of email by now, why do they continue to be such idiots?
Remember we are not talking national security, just send stupid work order competion sheets. No big secrets, you can buy these products I service at Walmart. And As to paper trails, I keep the orignal (the scanner does not destroy it) and the recever can print all the copies he wants, even extra sheets to wipe with if they want. Fax machines belong in museums.
Don’t give me any security issues promoting fax over emal, I found a site that you email it to them and it is faxed for free. So they are not avoiding the email security issue with the fax, they are increasing the security threat by forcing me to use a 3rd party to transmit the fax. Same goes when it is faxed from a store or fax service. At least with email it goes directly to the receiver.

Answer by Dougie L
Until you have a system where an email is fully guaranteed and can’t be repudiated you can’t avoid having to use paper. The fax, sign, fax back process can form a clause in a contract. You can’t do that in email (without having a fully trusted cryptographic public/private key system).
Email isn’t safe, emai isn’t guaranteed to be delivered.
With a fax you can be nearly 100% sure that it’s arrived at the remote station.
Answer by Jay M
Paper Trail is still effective.. Email cant have your signature….. until the time that they can secure the internet perfectly… I think Fax machine (Paper Traail) will still exist.

If my fax machine’s time/date is not properly programmed, will it be that time that the receiver will see?
Posted by in Fax Machine on December 16, 2010

By Catherine: If my fax machine’s time/date is not properly programmed, will it be that time that the receiver will see?
Last night I had to fax and important document on a strict deadline. However, later when I looked at my fax confirmation printout, despite it being sent/received fine, the time on my confirmation was wrong, and it indicated that I had sent it the next day (which would have been passed the deadline).
My question is, what time would the receiver see that my fax was sent out? Would it be the time programmed into their machine, or in mine!
Help…

Answer by percival.sweetwater
No, the date and time is what YOU will see on incoming faxes. When you send a fax, the time and date THEY see is what they’ve programmed into their machine.
Answer by Karen
Just fix it and you’ll have noting to worry about on either end.
Answer by j.winn1
i think it would be in there machine…

How do I delete my fax machine’s memory? – Fax Machine
Posted by in Fax Machine on October 24, 2010

By Blake’s Mommy: How do I delete my fax machine’s memory?
My fax machine is saying that the memory is full, and therefore will neither let me send out nor receive a fax. Is there a way to delete the memory or clear it so it is usable again?
unplugging did not work.
the manual is MIA – otherwise that would be the first place to look.

unplug, wait 5 min, replug
Answer by mezzie
Isn’t there a handbook telling you how to do it?
Try printing out a menu function list and see if there is a setting on how to clear the memory.
