is there a way to install my lexmark printer to comcast modem?
Posted by in Fax Driver on December 11, 2011

My Question: is there a way to install my lexmark printer to comcast modem?
i have comcast triple play i can’t install my fax machine it keeps saying line in use.
It depends on the type of modem box you have. If you have one that also supplies telephone lines, then you should be able to hook up your fax to the telephone line, provided you are properly setup with comcast for phone service. You may need to call their technical support/customer service to get help in confirming your comcast setup and connecting your fax. Also, make sure you’re connecting the phone line to your fax where it says Line and not the phone jack on the printer.
Save yourself from worries on how to install your fax machine. Use an internet fax service instead.

By i-TCHiNGz: Do I still need a modem?
I connect to the internet via dsl so I have not much use for my modem I used to connect for my old dial-up isp. Except for sending and receiving faxes I have not much use for it. Now I am planning to buy a new computer do I still need to have modem installed? Besides the ones I have mentioned what other possible uses would I have for a modem? Is there a way I can send and receive fax without the regular modem?

Answer by crazydog115
If you are getting DSL you need:
A DSL modem (not an internal computer one)
A Router (Wired or Wireless)
Either a Built in Network Adapter, or if your Modem+Router is far from your computer, a wirless network adapter
A Modem in the computer can be used:
To use your computer as a phone
To Send Faxes
Alternate Internet Connection if your DSL goes out

Difference between Broadband and a modem?
Posted by in Fax Internet on October 31, 2011
Question by Immanuel: Difference between Broadband and a modem?
What is the difference between broadband and a modem? I was just wondering because when I was downloading a game trial, they said Brodband: 8 mins, Modem: 103 mins. and also how come when I’m using my internet, I can’t use my fax machine?
How do I know which one mine is? They say Local Area Network now connected 100.0MBps. so what is it?

The modem refers to the 56k phone line which is what your fax is using. Why can’t you use your fax when you are using your modem? They both use the same frequency.
Answer by Sumsaykra-z
broadband is high speed internet. when they say modem they mean dial up modem like with a dial up connection ….verrrrrrrrryyyy slllloooooowwwww. and you probably cant use your fax because you have dial up which its going to take you a hour and a half to download that game..good luck
Answer by carlos a
SAME THING BROADBANDS WAY FATSTER THOUGH.
Answer by djw
The word modem is a shortening of MOdulator/DEModulator and that is the device that is used to supply internet to your home no matter what speed you have, ie even broadband uses a modem.
But the meaning on internet sites where they have downloads is as follows:-
Broadband: Speeds running at 2Mb or higher
Modem: Speeds running at around 56kb
Generally if you have a permenant connection it is likely to be Broadband, if you have dial up it is going to be a modem running at 56kb.
If you cannot use your fax it is either
On Broadband, you have connected your machine to the telephone line before the microfilter.
On modem, you cannot use your telephone line whilst you are using the internet, it is just not possible.
Answer by Andy T
The people behind that website is obviously have some screw loose, they are referring “broadband” as your average high-speed Internet connection and “modem” as the typical 56K dial-up slow-speed connection. When “modems” exist for any kind of non-LAN connection.
Not able to use fax/traditional phone is a sign of dial up connection, unless the line you neglect to have filters on with DSL at the house.

try changing your phone line cable, they are cheap and sometimes they go bad … go buy one at your local store, they cost usually from to like .
Answer by Lucas H
Your wiring could have been damaged in the storm as well. Replace the phone line going into the wall from your modem. Make sure it’s not on a splitter. Make sure you have the latest driver for the modem. Older drivers will not allow you to connect to some types of equipment.
Contact the phone company to test your line. They can do one type of test by “pinging” your line from the CO. That will detect some problems. Other times a repair guy has to come out.
It could be an incompatibility with your modem and the modem at your ISP. You can also try dialing long distance to another number at your ISP to see if it works in that case. That would point to bad equipment on their end (another location if it is indeed a different modem bank) or a problem with the routing of your phone calls which is the phone companies issue. They may have had to tie you into a different circuit if there was downed lines in your area or a fiber cut somewhere.

Do I need to plug my phone/fax/modem into the phone line on my ADSL modem to use the VOIP or not?
Posted by in Fax Internet on August 12, 2011
Question by kaerondaes: Do I need to plug my phone/fax/modem into the phone line on my ADSL modem to use the VOIP or not?
I have a Brother Phone/Fax/Modem (MFC-630) and an ADSL modem with a VOIP line. I have tried plugging the Brother directly into the filter and not the ADSL modem, and it seem to work, but then I don’t know if I’m using the VOIP line or not (and the VOIP line is cheaper than our normal phone line, so I want to use it!). However, we are having some apparent line noise trouble. (We are frequently unable to make new internet connections, even if the current connections are sound, so we can play an online game, for instance, but can’t surf new web pages.) If you have any other ideas as to what the problem could be, please tell.
The modem is an NTT model, it’s Japanese, so honestly details are a little hard for me to make out. (I’m quite slow reading Japanese.)
And we’re using a Logitec switch. We have a D-Link router around but the power supply broke.

sounds like you hooking up your cables backwards. if in doubt call your voip or isp.
Answer by tbshmkr
IF plugged into the filter, the Brother Phone/Fax/Modem (MFC-630) uses the telephone line , NOT VOIP.

What make & model is the ADSL modem?
=
Do you have a router?
– If YES, set bandwidth limits to devices & components.
– -This ensures games and websurfers work & play well with each other.

Why does my computer tell me that my modem is in use, when it isn’t?

Question by Grosvenor: Why does my computer tell me that my modem is in use, when it isn’t?
I’m trying to update my modem drivers b/c I can’t get my fax program to work any more. It’s not communicating with my modem, so I downloaded the driver, but it can’t continue b/c it says my modem is in use and I don’t even have any programs open!

Some FAX software will be “listening” on the com port all the time if it’s been installed. Remove all the fax software if you can and try again. Otherwise maybe boot to safe mode and try the update from there….
Answer by Jessica
Please make sure that, there is no any fax software on your computer. Also, you may try extract your modem and then plug it again.
Hope it helps.

I would unistall the modem from the device manager and reinstall it, using the new drivers. Dont just update the driver completly uninstall the the device it self. Make sure you disconect the phone line as well, you may need to go to the task manager an look for the Rnaapp, just press CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the task manager and look for it and end program.
It is also possible you have a registry error… Download and run Lexun Regscrubxp
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Lexun_RegScrubXP_d2048.html
If noe of this works, let me know and we can run some diagnostic and see where the problem is we may need to shut dwon and restart a service, or you modem could be physically broken. I am assuming you are talkin a 56k dial up modem correct
