Can I keep my business phone number and have it forwarded to my cell and drop the high monthly fees?

Question by Joseph F: Can I keep my business phone number and have it forwarded to my cell and drop the high monthly fees?
I currently have VOIP service but I’m droping my cable internet at my shop for a mobile air card. I’m not at my shop much and I could use my internet service on the road more than in the shop. The downside is that my VOIP service provides my voice and fax line. Without the internet the VOIP won’t work. I plan on switching to a internet fax-to-e-mail service but I don’t see the need in paying $ 29.99 for the VOIP service just to have my calls forwarded to my cell phone. Is there any way to pay a company to instantly forward my calls to my cellphone for around $ 10 since I won’t be using them for long distance or any outgoing calls? The local phone company isnt very friendly with business numbers. I could get a basic residential line and have it forwarded for $ 9.99 but the business number that I have has a minimum charge of $ 54.99 w/ Bellsouth.

Any cheap long distance companies that don’t charge a monthly service fee?

Ask by EyceMan: Any cheap long distance companies that don’t charge a monthly service fee?
So I have a local landline but I don’t currently have a long distance provider. The phone is from ATT but currently I cannot dial 1+ or 10XXX+ either because I disabled them earlier.
Instead of using calling cards I just want to have a decent LD company that I can either reach with 10XXX+ or 1+ without being ripped off every month. This will just be to send faxes occasionally btw and maybe for other long distance. Usually I just use my cell for long distance.
So what’s out there?

Metro PCS offers unlimited international calls for a month. I cant really say more than that about it but you should look it up or ask people about it. The a month is in additon to your regular plan btw.

Your software lets you set up fax / printer. I have faxed from my computer often.
It treats it as a local call. No charge. =]
Have fun.
Answer by Bill M.
One thing you can do is install a fax modem. Run an extension phone line directly to the fax modem.
It looks like this:

FAQ: If I get a fax machine, what is the extra monthly cost? – Fax Machine
Posted by in Fax Machine on September 5, 2010

By Dom: If I get a fax machine, what is the extra monthly cost?
I am thinking about getting a HP 4 in 1 machine with the ability to fax documents. I won’t be using it too much but it would be beneficial to have one.
So what is the extra monthly cost? Do I need a seperate phone line for the fax?
Best answer:
Answer by Tim
You just need to plug it into a phone line. You can either share a line or have a dedicated line just for the fax.
If you use and existing line, you just pay for the phone call
Answer by Real Estate Guy
Besides the cost of the machine and any long distance charges, there isn’t any cost.
If you are going to be receiving a lot of faxes, a 2nd line is nice.
The machine has a switch that allows you to keep it on all the time. When it hears the tone, it will receive the fax. Otherwise, income voice calls work the same as usual.
I have a fax machine (4 in 1). When I want to fax something that I have on the computer, I don’t need to print it out and then fax it; I can fax it directly from the computer. Your computer can also receive faxes that you can then print out.
Another nice feature of the 4 in 1 is the scan feature. You can scan stuff into the computer and then save it on the computer or send it as an attachment. I use adobe to create PDF’s.
Make sure your 4 in 1 has a sheet feeder AND a flat bed scanner. This way you can fax or scan multi documents and also scan books, articles etc on the flat bed.
I have HP and like it. Plus it uses less ink. Lexmark is ok, but burns ink.
Answer by countess almasy
Get eFax (look it up on the internet). No need for a machine (unless you need to scan rather than send attachments. It’s less than a month.
