i wanna know bcuz i want a fax line along with the phone without getting a 2nd phone line

Featured answer:

Answer by countdwn2002
AT&T Internet connects through your phone line. Assuming your talking about DSL, it’s not like dial-up where you can’t use your phone line while your connected. You can send/receive faxes on the same line the DSL is on while your on the internet.
However, If you do a lot of faxing or receiving faxes, you still probably will want a dedicated fax line.

By *Mommy-To-Be 2/14/10*: XP Service Pack Question!! HELP!?
Ok, I am trying to install Microsoft Windows Service pack 3, but when I tried, it said the expected version of this program was not found on your system! What does that mean, and how can I download the service pack? I am trying to install a fax machine! Please help!
When I clicked on my computer, properties it listed Service Pack 3. But when I try to install my fax machine, it’s saying I don’t have Service Pack 3! What is going on?

Featured answer:

Answer by Some Name
it probably means your supposed to have service pack 2 or it just cant find the nessasary files so to see if what service pace you have just right click ” my comuter ” click properties, and then it should say what service pack you have

Answer by madmosh_uk
Are you trying to install *Office* SP3 or *Windows* SP3? The error occurs when trying to install Office SP3 and the resolution is to install the “full-file” version. This means a full download of the service pack rather than installing via the Windows Update mechanism.

The following link has full details. I’d assume that if you’re getting the same issue installing the Windows SP3 then a similar solution would work i.e. get hold of the full download version of the service pack for installation.

UPDATE

Wonder if the fax is looking for Office SP3? I’d recommend downloading and installing them both in full. There’s no harm in reinstalling a service pack.

Get them both on and then run windows update (just go to http://update.microsoft.com in Internet Explorer) and apply all the urgent patches once the SP’s are on.

Answer by James Bond
You must have windows xp service pack 2 on the machine to go to SP 3

Answer by Dunbar Pappy
Give this a shot:
Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Update.
When @ Microsoft Updates, click the ‘Custom’ button, not the ‘Express’.
This will give you hardware & software updates specific to your unit (hence the necessity to allow the ‘Active X’).
Express gives Windows operating system updates.

Tip: When your system is behaving itself, do a driver backup to a single CD so you can get to them again.
It gets harder and harder to find them, and many places charge to get them.
Driver Magician Lite
enables you to backup selected device drivers to a folder or drive of your choice, so that you can re-install them later without the need for your original CD. The program automatically marks non-standard driver (that do not come included with Windows), allowing you to quickly find the drivers that have been added by devices such as printers, web cams etc.
Use the ‘identify & back up all drivers’ for the first BU; & keep it with your unit.

Question by Dennis D: I removed some windows programs like fax and calc. I try to reinstall them and it ask for service pack 3 disk.?
I removed some windows programs. Like calc. fax, windows explorer. I try to re insall them and it can’t and ask for xp service pak 3 disk. You can find the files it is looking for and click on them but it won’t see them. I am using windows add/remove components to reinstall them.
It just says it can’t find the file and when you hit brouse you can see them but the program doesn’t. It keeps asking for xp service pack 3
I am using xp with service pack 3 installed
I followed your instructions and it did the same thing. The files icon looks like they have no association to it. You can see the files but the installer doesn’t. Is there anything else I can do?

Best answer:

Answer by PartieHonteuse
Make a new empty folder directly on your C: drive named “sp3″. So C:\sp3. Download the network install of SP3 from Microsoft (check resources links) and save it in the C:\sp3 folder.

Once it’s downloaded and saved open a command prompt by going into Start Menu > Run > type “cmd” (no quotes) and press enter or ok button.

Black window with white text will open (the command prompt). In there type

cd\sp3 [press enter]
Now you should see C:\sp3>

now type in
WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe /x [press enter]
(Note: change WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe to whatever the filename is you download for XP SP3)

Once you press enter a window will open asking where you want to extract the files to. Type in C:\sp3\files.

Once it finishes extracting the files try to reinstall your files that you wanted to install. When it asks for the files you’re missing tel it to browse and browse to C:\sp3\files\ and that should find the files you want and install them.

My computer came w/fax as well. I use to use it. when I try to run fax set up to install, it says for me to insert windows xp professional service pack 2. I didn’t get a disk like this w/my computer when i purchased it. the only thing I know of having is a microsoft professional (Office). This is quite annoying. I just want to install the fax back on it. Please help.

Answer:

Answer by pboltonchina
2 ways to do this.
1. If your copy of Windows XP is a legal copy go to Windows Update and it should install SP2 for you, then you should be ok.
2. go to http://www.filehippo.com or http://www.goloads.com and download Windows XP SP2 for free, save it to a disc, and then put the disc in when it asks you to.

Hope this helps.
