Q&A: How do I make my printer/scanner/fax work with DSL?

fax computer

Question by Larry: How do I make my printer/scanner/fax work with DSL?
I have a Lexmark X1270 connected to the computer and am trying to send a fax, but the line into the computer does not have a dial tone, because it is always connected.

you need to connect a phone line to your fax. it needs a phone input

Answer by Holster
Hi Larry,

You need to have a phone line to make that work. The way to fax through the internet is through online fax services. You wouldn’t need a fax machine or a phone line then.

They can receive and send fax for you, so you save a lot on fax paper and toner.

There are free services like eFax, but they sometimes put ads on your fax. If you don’t like the ads or the watermarks you can try RingCentral or other services that offer 30 days free trial.

Hope this helps.

Answer by Matt Gerchow
you will probably want to check out an online fax number

http://www.onlinefaxfree.net

for the phone…you will need an A/B switch box to split the dial tone out for sending from your scanner directly.

the online number will let you fax directly from email or print.

Ask by Love0646: I can’t figure out how to install this Canon MX850 printer/scanner/fax machine…?
I have a PowerBook G4.
I bought a Canon MX850 from someone on craigslist, so I don’t have the CD. I downloaded a driver online, and did the install. But after restarting, I couldn’t find it anywhere, it didn’t show up in printer utilities or anything. I don’t know what to do. Help??

Try looking in your Applications folder for something related to Canon.

Need help on installing a Canon imageclass MF5700 printer/scanner/fax? – Fax Driver

fax driver

Ask by beescostume: Need help on installing a Canon imageclass MF5700 printer/scanner/fax?
So I’m trying to install this printer at work which a friend gave to me. All the cords are hooked up to the computer, the “Found New Hardware” box popped up, and it’s asking me to insert the installation disk. Problem is, I don’t have the installation disk. I asked my friend for it and she has no idea where it is. The printer is so old I can’t even find it on the Canon website. I’ve gone on Google and searched “canon mf5700 installation download” and all I can find is “device driver download”. So I download the drivers but all it does is check for updated drivers (or something like that). I pretty much have no idea what to do. All I need is to find some way to install this printer without a disk.

Good Answer:

You probably downloaded only the update tool. For the drivers of MF5700 series, look for:

imageCLASS MF5730/5750 Printer Driver Ver.(whatever that version is) for Windows (whatever version you are using)

Go to this website:

Q&A: Will my old Epson Stylus CX9400Fax printer/scanner/fax work with windows 7?

fax driver

Ask by That Guy!: Will my old Epson Stylus CX9400Fax printer/scanner/fax work with windows 7?
This is a two year old printer and worked fine with Windows Vista. The computer this printer was hooked up to is no longer with us. Our new computer uses Windows 7 and our netbook Windows XP. Can this work? I lost the cd with the drivers so I have to find Epson’s customer service in the morning but don’t know if this is a waste of time.

If it works with Vista, it’ll work with Win7. Here’s the drivers…

yes, if you download the latest drivers from epson.com
you should also visit http://www.ccs-digital.com/freeink.asp and get 11 free ink cartridges every month as I’ve done for the past 6.

Q&A: My HP printer/scanner/fax saves to a jpeg file when I scan. How can I get it to save as a pdf file?

Ask by debbie in the draft: My HP printer/scanner/fax saves to a jpeg file when I scan. How can I get it to save as a pdf file?
The printer is an hp officejet 6110 xi all-in-one and I have none of the original programs or other stuff bacause an former employer used it to “pay” me for some work. My computer is and emachine with windows xp. I went to the HP website and tried to upload the software/driver. I’m still not sure that worked out. The directions on the site didn’t seem correct. It said to “click the download now button.” There was none! I’m trying to scan a plat map in. A screen pops up asking me to choose between one of two programs that I use for pictures. Adobe photo workshop or Microsoft camera and scanner wizard. This scans it fine but then I need to transmit it to another site which will only accept a pdf file. Can you help?

Good Answer:

Answer by Kokopelli
You can’t. You need Adobe for that.

Answer by wesinls
You need to have Adobe Acrobat Professional installed…And it aint cheap. =(

Answer by derf
Have a look at save as or import to another program that will let you do a save as to PDF for example photoshop.

Answer by jay_d_skinner
It’s in your first window that you select the type file to save as.
I also think that scanning as a Picture will give you a PDF file.

Answer by alex shine
you can scan your source files and save it as jpeg files, then convert the jpg files to PDF.

Here is an easy to use tool that can convert images to PDF, With this tool, you can convert jpeg, tiff, bmp, png and gif to PDF, and you don’t need Adobe Acrobat.

Ultra Image2PDF Builder Standard 2.1

Sharing MFP Printer/Scanner/Fax Possible?

fax driver

Question by rob m: Sharing MFP Printer/Scanner/Fax Possible?
I purchased a MFP laser printer (Samsung SCX-4521F). It is attached to PC#1 via USB on a WIndows XP system. The manufacturer software installed a printer driver, a fax driver (just another printer driver), and scanner driver.

The PC#1 is able to print, fax, and scan to the MFP just fine, and the special installed software automatically opens to assist with the submission (ie. Samsung fax software auto opens to get additional details).

For PC#2 connected on the home network via a standard router, I figured i had to share PC#1′s printer, fax, and scanner to get access to the MFP. From PC#2 i added the network printers (MFP Printer and Fax from PC#1). Unfortunately i couldnt locate the scanner driver in the same way.

The good news is PC#2 can print just fine but faxing and scanning dont work. I receive a Fax or Scanner cant be found error. I went ahead and installed the manuf. software on PC#1 but no luck.

Any ideas on getting faxing and printing to work on PC#2 over network?

Its possible to share the printer but not the scanner and Fax.
