Q&A: How do I report an invalid SAT question?
I took the SAT today and I just got home. I noticed one math question on the SAT that did not appear to have any correct answer listed. The proctor had no idea what I could do about this. Is there a way to report an invalid question online, over the phone, or by fax?
AH I just figured it out. There was only one I was unsure of, it was the surface area of the rectangular prism with sides 2x, 3x, and 5x. I messed up, but I know for a fact the answer is 62x^2 now. Good thing I left it blank. It was the last problem in section 9 for me… I didn’t notice any other weird questions though.
“davegross38,” first of all I know that there has never been a case in history where a question was determined as invalid in the writing and verbal sections. I have heard that it is possible and has happened for the math section, so statistically, maybe this could’ve been the next year – who knows?
“I bet that the college board gets a bunch of people every test day just like you…” I think it’s worth mentioning that after I realized my mistake, I found no need to report it to collegeboard. So, luckily, they didn’t “get me;” I’m not “one of those people.” Again, I never contacted them.
“I just hope you didn’t disturb the whole room while you explained to the proctor…” Hold on, “explained?” Where did I say that? I’m curious as to what you got on the reading comprehension section… wow. If you wanted to know, I waited until everyone had walked out of the room and I merely MENTIONED to her that I thought a problem was wrong, and I asked what I should do. She said she wasn’t sure.
Last, the fact that I continued doing this problem at home suggests there was still a spec of doubt in my mind – a possibility that I could be wrong.
And for that question, the answer is 666. It says “less than 1000″ so you don’t include it. so, from 1 to 999. 999 numbers. Every third number is divisible by 3, so 999/3=333. The remaining numbers are NOT divisible by 3. So, 999-333=666. Answer is 666. It’s not 667 because you don’t include the number 1000.

Did you really think there would be an invalid question on the SAT? So much thought goes into each of these questions that it is nearly impossible for an entire organization of professional (nasty) question makers to overlook a problem. I’m surprised you took this up with the proctor. That wasn’t even a tough question. I bet that the college board gets a bunch of people every test day just like you who think they couldn’t possibly have made a mistake and that the question must be wrong. If the question is wrong then it would become apparent in the statistics once the tests were graded and it would become a huge issue because it could affect scores across an entire section (people who spend the whole time trying to get a problem with no answer). I just hope you didn’t disturb the whole room while you explained to the proctor that the test MUST be wrong.

i looked up a used car, its a good price but the carfax report say an accident was involved and where it happend, is there a way to find out what kind of accident it was in? what was done to fix it?
Ask the owner for the bills! Probably best to walk away from this car.

A private lawyer from England is contacting people via email stating that they are the only living relative and can apply for the millions of dollars (pounds) left to them. The process is long, costly, and asks for much personal information including a color copy of a passport. How can I be sure this is a scam? The fax number they have given me is 44-700-598-0371 for the Castle Trust Bank.

Here’s how to do the forwarding bit: click the crtl key and at the same time click the “forward” button to forward a message as an attachment, mac users should click the “apple” key and click “forward” simultaneously.

My family and I have been cheated badly by City Old Tourism. We booked 9 days on a 5 star hotel in Cuba, and arriving at the hotel, they did not know of our reservation and payment.
On my accont and email history at Old City Tourism, everything seems to be okay. I have even spoken to them prior to take off and they were kind and helpfull. Now they pretend that they investigate what has happend. The asked me to send a copy of my receipt from by fax. Where do I report this fraud, – police or what?

Credit card company. Tell them you are refuting the charge. They will investigate and if you got ripped off they will credit you back the money.

Hmmm, looks like i have been another victim of this company!
Opened my statement this morning, and have been charged £92 for a hotel booking that never was! Back in July I wanted to find someplace that would do one night in Brighton. Booked through www.allhotelssearch.com but they came back to me the next day and said the hotel I was interested in was full, but that I wouldn’t be charged. Found a hotel by myself in the end. It seems Oldcity have done this a few times, judging by the things I have found on the Net. I thought this was just an error, but it looks like I will have to call and cancel my credit card in case it gets used again!

Got hold of my credit card co…. they have taken it off my statement for 30 days while they investigate it. They are going to ask Old City for documentation of what this payment was for….stay tuned I guess!

I’ve been got too, about a month ago. I’ve had no luck in getting replies to emails OR anyone who will speak to me on the phone. I have contacted my bank who say that the form of payment I used was guaranteed payment, and that it’s unlikely I’ll get my money back. I suggest people type in old city tourism into the ‘search for questions’ box on Yahoo 7 and see what this company have been up to.

Just got a HP Officejet 6500 Wireless multifunctional, and on sending faxes, when i get the fax sent confirmation that is has been sent, although i have the option on to include an image of the first page of the sent doc, it doesn’t show on the report it prints! So do I have to scan it first to receive that, and how does it work? The manual I got says practically nothing Thank you

Scanning it won’t cause it to show up, it will just copy the pages you scanned. It should show up, so I’m guessing it’s a faulty printer not doing what it’s supposed to. Perhaps make a phone call to HP, it could be a problem that is easily fixed by a software setting etc.

If you are really worried about it, check your state’s Attorney General’s office to see if they have a system for reporting online scams.
Otherwise, delete it.

Nah… that’s just an old standard african scam email, I’ve gotten dozens … forget it!. Your spam filter should have dumped it into the spam folder though…

i’m in the process of rescoring my credit. My bank has already contacted Experian and sent them the updated account balance. However, my bank did not know the fax numbers to TransUnion and Equifax to send them the updated balance of my account I just paid down. I need a contact number to both companies to get an email address or fax number.

Unless you used Jackson Hewitt, or another tax service there is no way. And since the IRS is a government entity they need written proof, you are you, and you requested the tax report.
When I requested my tax report, I tried to use www.irs.gov but all they had was the form to request the report. Its government they have one way of releasing tax reports and mailing or faxing is it.

if you did your own taxes there is no way to get a copy with out go to the irs!!!!

For your 2006 tax return, if it was self prepared, no way. If someone else prepared it, check with them to see if they have a copy.
For your 2007 tax return, make a copy of it this time before sending.

My lawyer took $ 5,500 from me as a retainer to initiate a private investigation that was never carried out! It’s been over 9 months now, and despite several attempts to find out any results and to recover some or all of my money, he persistently ignores my emails, faxes, letters and calls! He never gave me a receipt for the money, and never produced a single invoice. I want to be able to report this con man, can anyone suggest a solution?

The state bar association in each state includes a disciplinary committee. Go to your state’s bar association website to find the contact information.
Generally, one would hire an attorney to provide legal advice and legal services. One would hire a private investigator for an investigation. If your attorney has a PI license, find out which state agency in your state issues the license. Report the investigator to that licensing agency.

Doesn’t sound like a lawyer….
When a lawyer takes a retainer they have to do it by contract.
You call the state organization that is in charge of disciplining lawyers. It is not a bar association, as those are voluntary. Generally it is a board of bar overseers, or a section of the highest court in the state.
