Can a switch connect to a router to further share internet connection?

Ask by Jack Townsend: Can a switch connect to a router to further share internet connection?
Hey, sorry if this has been asked a few times already (couldn’t quite get a clear answer from the other people’s questions), but…
I have a lot of stuff that connects to the internet via ethernet ports. I was wondering if a switch would be able to share the internet connection, as described below:
Internet -> Modem -> Wireless Router -> Switch -> Switch
We have 1 PC connected to the wireless router and several laptops sharing the wireless internet. From there we’d like to run a cable through the ceiling to the other side of the room so we can connect 2 printers and a fax machine. Then we’d like to further run a cable to the next room to connect a TV, computer, and two video game consoles. Can this be done by using 1 router and 2 switches or do I need to use 3 routers?
Thanks,
Jack

Yes, you can chain switches to your router to make everything work like you want. You don’t need to use routers because a router basically is only needed to connect two different networks together. That is why you need one between your Modem (Internet network) and your local network. and since everything on your local side of the router is using the same subnet (Ie. 192.168.1.x addresses)

Yes, just like you show in the diagram – you can add switches as needed…. It is easier to add switches than try to configure several routers on the same network….

FAQ: Do your friends, families & coworkers share your views on the illegals; and do they do anything about it?

Ask by giantph: Do your friends, families & coworkers share your views on the illegals; and do they do anything about it?
This is a follow-up question to Raalan’s previous post. We can email, fax, and mail our representatives until we throw up but I feel that our voices aren’t being heard because there aren’t enough of us that are actually taking action. I think most people are simply sitting back, complaining, and jerking off.
Most of the people in my life are not aware of anything that’s going on. When I tell them all facts about the illegals and the consequences of the immigration bill, they are all appalled. I give them their representatives’ emails. But it ends there. It’s very frustrating.

I feel ya! Everyone that I know knos there is an issue but they do not wish to address it personally. They hope that a government leader will take care of it. Clearly that will never happen.

They don’t care. My mother used to slap us for speaking improper English. Now she speaks with southern slang and thinks Spanish is a more logical language than German or English. Why can’t we all just get along. They don’t get the whole invasion part or why people like me are displaced or why the family has fewer workers and those that are working got their jobs because they knew somebody.
Answer by Siervocal
No, not all of them share my views, but a lot of them do. I have gotten a group of people to call representatives, send petitions, and collect signatures. YES to the immigration reform bill. In March we collected 10 million signatures nationwide and sent them to the congress. Why are pro-immigration movements more successful than antis? Because we know what we are talking about. Most people against an immigration reform ignore historical and political events, they are just misguided by their sense of “justice.” ¡Si se puede! ¡Si se puede!

Yes, and they call and write daily. We can do this. We ARE ‘the people’ as the Constituion states.

No. The analog Fax, CCM and Dialup modem connect to your phone line just like a telephone does.
DSL is for digital data only.

sorry, but no
Answer by GGoodie ===”’
I think the cable is a HUB or Kat cable…I think.
Well you can use this cable on a DSL modem to connect different devices.
For example I have a DSL modem and with that one modem I have my living room computer with net access, my laptop, and my PS2. If you can find one those cords and a router (for the phone jack) for the different cables that you will use, you should be squared away.
Answer by Zachi
if you have a regular phone line on the same line as the DSL, then yes, you can, provided:
(1) you use the appropriate filters
(2) only one of the devices that need a phone line can use it simultaneously.
The router is irrelevant for these devices. I use the same line for DSL and regular phone with the line filters, and occasionnaly I fax on it, so I know it is possible.
Why would you want to use a dial-up modem if you have DSL anyway? set up a VPN instead.

Ask by sum142121: Help , I can’t add a printer to the second computer and “share it” ??
I can’t add a printer to my 2nd computer
.My first computer has a printer and it’s working. I connected my second computer through the router and when I went to Control Panel > Printer and Faxes > Add Printer , This is the message I get
“Operation could not be completed . The print spooler service is not running ” .
What is wrong here ? I remember removing the printer software from my computer , months ago . This is a different printer now . It’s an Epson . Do I need to download the softwares for the Epson model and install it to my 2nd computer ? Is that why it’s giving me this message ??

Do a start –> run –> services.msc. Go to the Print Spooler service and make sure that it is set to Automatic and started.
Answer by r_moulton76
Yup — you need to install the drivers on your second computer. You don’t have the disks?
Answer by the man the myth the answerer
That message has nothing to do with the drivers go to start -> run-> and type in services.msc look for Print spoolers and make it start automatically and start it.
Answer by yaguru
maybe its giving the message because there is no printer attached to your computer. I think a network printer is added differently.

Strange symptoms. If Printer A is cabled to Computer A, you must also install Printer A on Computer B to print across the network. But that error message is more like the properties of the printer on Computer A are not marked shared.
