Can a switch connect to a router to further share internet connection?

Ask by Jack Townsend: Can a switch connect to a router to further share internet connection?
Hey, sorry if this has been asked a few times already (couldn’t quite get a clear answer from the other people’s questions), but…
I have a lot of stuff that connects to the internet via ethernet ports. I was wondering if a switch would be able to share the internet connection, as described below:
Internet -> Modem -> Wireless Router -> Switch -> Switch
We have 1 PC connected to the wireless router and several laptops sharing the wireless internet. From there we’d like to run a cable through the ceiling to the other side of the room so we can connect 2 printers and a fax machine. Then we’d like to further run a cable to the next room to connect a TV, computer, and two video game consoles. Can this be done by using 1 router and 2 switches or do I need to use 3 routers?
Thanks,
Jack

Yes, you can chain switches to your router to make everything work like you want. You don’t need to use routers because a router basically is only needed to connect two different networks together. That is why you need one between your Modem (Internet network) and your local network. and since everything on your local side of the router is using the same subnet (Ie. 192.168.1.x addresses)

Yes, just like you show in the diagram – you can add switches as needed…. It is easier to add switches than try to configure several routers on the same network….

COMCAST SUCKS! Anyone else having problems with the Adelphia switch over?

Question by Medtran01: COMCAST SUCKS! Anyone else having problems with the Adelphia switch over?
Get this…I pay my Adelphia bill on Nov. 14th of last month. I get a Comcast bill at the end of the month. Yesterday, my new “comcast” service is “interrupted”. I call, they say it is for non-payment. I say, it is paid. They, say, we have not received a payment since October. So, I PAY AGAIN over the phone. They reconnect my service, I go online, check my bank account, and I HAD PAID, dirty thieves. So, I call back to cancel the 2nd payment. They say, “You will have to fax in your bank statement showing the payment”. I do, they never call. I call them, they say they will reverse the 2nd payment. Next day, I get a call to say the payment was reversed. Later that evening, customer service calls, “You need to pay your bill in full”. I say, it is..they say, “you cancelled your payment”. I say, I cancelled a double payment. They say, fax us your bank statement or we’re cutting you off. CAN YOU believe this shit??????? I want to hurt someone!

Sounds like my landlord. Scheming jackass liar. My Adelphia recently was switched over to Time Warner but I must say… it’s been working a lot better for me! Good luck with your problem. Raise hell!

Call them and demand to speak to a manager in their escalations department. When the associate asks how may I help you, be nice but firm and tell them you can’t, I need to speak with a manager. Explain the situation and refuse to get off of the phone until the situation is resolved by the manager or until the manager calls you and then emails you with proof that the situation has been resolved. I would also request that some kind of compensation be made for the inconvenience they’ve put you through. If none of this works, get the name of the president of the company and send a letter, while contacting your local news station that has a viewer advocate feature. I’m sure they would love this story.

Windows XP, by default, opens JPG files using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. When you install other photo programs, they often change the “file associations” in Windows. Adobe Photoshop Album Starter 3.0 is an example.
To change the File Association, right-click on any JPG and choose “Open With >”. Then click on “Choose Program…” Choose the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, then Check the “Always use this program to open this kind of file.” Box, then OK.
Now, Windows will use that app every time you double-click on a JPG, as it did when first installed.
