Ask by Sims: Should I go for this? Car wise?

I am looking at this mitsubishi, I went to look at it this morning(been working since then) couldnt post this earlier. A buddy of mine from work who drives a WRX told me that these car’s transmissions go out at like every 75k miles. The car overall condition I thought was really nice, It had some minor things(dent on one side, Antenna needs to be changed, key lock on driver door not working) but its 2500. Would it be worth getting, and I looked at the car fax and it has had 4 owners, no accidents. Also anyone heard about transmissions going bad on these cars, or anything else???
I need some advice, Ive been looking at corollas mostly so I dont know a lot about mitsubishis? are they easy to fix, is it expensive to maintain them? Those kinds of things…
would appreciate any help

Ehh, bit expensive, but it looks pretty nice.

2500 is not bad misubishi parts are exspensive as all import car parts are. if you have to buy a new tranny i think it would be better if you find a nice toyota, they run forever. my nuncle has a 01 tundra with 300k miles and it still runs like a champ he just keeps it up.

Mitsubishis are renowned for unreliability and expensive repairs. While I try to steer my customers toward buying a Japanese car, the Shitsubishi is at the bottom of the list. Toyota and Honda are at the top. I’ve owned several Mazdas and they are pretty good, too.

Your buddy is talking about automatic transmissions, I wouldn’t worry about the manual as long as it is tight now and has a good clutch. As far as the car goes, this type of car with those miles, I will bet it has had the DOG PISS run out of it.
My best advise to you is take it to the local mitsubishi dealer or whatever and have a multi-point inspection done complete with a compression test and go from there. If all that looks good then I would offer him 00.00 bucks for it all and see what his counter-offer is.

I’d steer clear. I think 00 is too much for a 10 year old car with 150K miles. This is the type of car that people like to thrash around. Probably driven way too hard, and not maintained the way it should. I wouldn’t put much confidence in the Carfax report either. Get the car inspected if you’re seriously considering it. Any repairs done without an insurance claim won’t show on Carfax.
My 2004 Mitsubishi Ralliart has been flawless so I would not agree with others about them not holding up, I just think this Eclipse is too expensive for the condition and year.
Please leave your answer in the comments! Thanks.
